Synopsis

In September 2012, Yadan DRAJY, a pioneer in the recent wave of political activism in Syria, arrived in France after first crossing the Syria-Jordan border on foot.

Yadan left his country with nothing more than a hard drive of memories, dreams and nightmares. From the beginning of the current conflict in early 2011 up until the time he fled in the fall of 2012, Yadan has been filming events along with four friends.

On Screen Off Record is the story of these five activitst-turned-journalists, who joined the resistance against media deceptions and Syrian state propaganda with their video cameras and smart phones. During the first eighteen months of the conflict, they tenaciously shot images every day in order to share their perspectives on the insurgency, which was largely under represented in the foreign media. It cost two of them their lives.

Between the propaganda of the Syrian regime and the political agendas of the foreign press, is a story of profound deception. This is the perspective that Yadan and his friends wish to share in their tragic adventure.
On Screen Off Record is an inside story of a hijacked revolution and of destinies forever changed by the use of a video camera.

En septembre 2012, Yadan DRAJY, un des pionniers de l’activisme à Daraa, est arrivé en France au terme d’un voyage éprouvant, après avoir traversé à pied la frontière jordano-syrienne.

Yadan a quitté son pays muni d’un disque dur rempli de souvenirs, de rêves et de cauchemars. Depuis le premier jour, et jusqu’à sa fuite en septembre 2012, il a filmé la révolution syrienne, avec quatre de ses amis.

Notre histoire est celle de ces cinq citoyens-journalistes qui grâce à leur caméras et smartphones sont entrés en résistance contre les mensonges des médias du régime Syrien. Pendant les dix-huit premiers mois du soulèvement, ils ont ainsi documenté quotidiennement les évènements dans le but d’atteindre les médias étranger et de rétablir la vérité sur les motivations des insurgés.

Mais entre la propagande du régime et l’agenda des médias étrangers, c’est aussi l’histoire d’un espoir déçu. Et c’est Yadan lui-même qui nous raconte comment lui et son équipe ont vécu cette aventure tragique.

On Screen Off Record relate ainsi la révolution telle qu’elle a été vécue de l’intérieur, et comment son esprit originel a été confisqué. C’est l’histoire de destins croisés, que l’utilisation d’une caméra vidéo a changé à jamais.
