Synopsis

Jadis l’âge inspirait le respect, aujourd’hui il fait peur. Être ou paraître jeune est devenu la quête du Graal de notre société. Ce mot semble être devenu un tabou aujourd’hui. Quelle image la société renvoie-t-elle du vieillissement ? Quelle image a-t-on de notre propre vieillissement ? Les objets prennent de la valeur en vieillissant, qu’en est-il de nous ? A quel âge vieillit-on exactement ?

Si vieillir m’était conté est un webdocumentaire constitué de témoignages vidéos et sonores, et de photographies de personnalités différentes : chercheur, chirurgien esthétique, gériatre mais aussi des personnes âgées anonymes, qui tenteront de répondre à la question : Qu’est-ce que vieillir ? La mémoire, la séduction, la place dans la société, le regard de l’autre… six personnes racontent le vieillissement.

Ce projet a été réalisé à l’initiative de la Fondation Caisses d’Epargne pour la solidarité, qui accueille en France près de 7 000 personnes âgées et handicapées dans ses 100 résidences et accompagne 10 000 personnes à leurs domiciles. Le webdocumentaire sera présenté dans tous ses établissements au cours de l’année 2012.

Synopsis (English)

Since the global financial breakdown, the EU has to tackle the consequences of a crisis that is far from over and that puts the political and social cohesion of Member States and the currency union at risk.

Faced with this emergency, what can MEPs do to reverse the trend?

This web documentary is an insight into the European parliament, behind closed doors. From Brussels to Strasbourg, from informal meetings to plenary sessions, we follow MEP Pervenche Berès, rapporteur of the 
special committee on the financial, economic and social crisis. Her goal: to reach a compromise between the different political groups all the while finding a sustainable recovery plan.

During these days, we accompany her and try to understand the work of European deputies. We share their reactions as well as the negotiations in “off camera” moments right up to the plenary vote of the final report.

This interactive documentary invites the audience to think about the existing political power of the European parliament and its role in the construction of a social and stable European democracy.

Le 15 septembre 2008, la banque Lehman Brothers fait faillite.
La plus grande banqueroute de l’histoire des Etats-Unis déclenche une crise mondiale.
En Europe, elle frappe tour à tour l’Islande, la Hongrie, la Grèce, l’Irlande, et menace les autres pays. On compte
23 millions de chômeurs et 80 millions d’européens vivent à présent en dessous du seuil de pauvreté.
L’Union européenne est face au plus grand défi économique et social de son histoire.
Face à la crise, que peuvent les eurodéputés pour inverser la tendance ?

De Bruxelles à Strasbourg, des réunions en huis clos aux séances plénières, nous suivons la députée européenne
Pervenche Berès, rapporteur de la commission spéciale sur la crise financière, économique et sociale.
Son objectif : parvenir à un compromis entre les différents groupes politiques tout en proposant des mesures
fortes pour sortir de la crise.

Au fil des jours, nous apprenons à ses côtés à mieux comprendre le travail des eurodéputés, mais aussi nous
partageons leurs humeurs, leurs réactions, en privilégiant les négociations, les moments en « off » jusqu’au vote
en plénière du rapport final.

Un documentaire interactif qui invite l’internaute à réfléchir sur le pouvoir politique de la seule institution européenne
élue au suffrage direct, et sur son rôle dans la construction d’une Europe sociale et solidaire.

Canal France International has just launched the Maarifa project (“knowledge” in Arabic), with a presentation for members of the Asian States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) attending their AGM. This ambitious project, which consists in developing educational multimedia programmes with partners from Mediterranean region, will be deployed over two years, with support from the ASBU and France 5. At least 20 skills transfer workshops, interspersed with plenary meetings, will be organised at the selected TV channels.

The International Documentary Festival in Amsterdam (IDFA) is hosting every year two major events:
- The FORUM, the international co-financing market for documentaries and Europe’s largest gathering of filmmakers, television commissioning editors, and independent documentary producers. We will be “pitching” there our project Boomtown Babylon to fellow professionals.
- DocLaB, a special festival happening during IDFA. It was created to present films, web documentaries, and installations that innovate the documentary genre. Projects are showcased in the Doc Lab Media Lounge and in cinemas during a number of special Live Screenings and events. We will be presenting our latest webdocumentary iROCK as part of the official selection during The Web Rocks, a live showcase of online and interactive music documentaries of this cutting-edge festival on Tuesday 23rd.

Through unique local perspectives, Boomtown Babylon will open the eyes of new audiences to the challenges of both today and tomorrow, as the dynamic and chaotic cities of the developing world begin to boom, while the global North becomes a homogenous suburb peppered with poverty.

Lotje Sodderland, Author, Co-director of the series
Lotje Sodderland currently works as an interactive producer-director, creating non-linear, non-fiction web content in collaboration with agencies such as Submarine in Amsterdam or Mother in London. She also writes about transformative digital culture for diverse online and print publications. Mathieu Saura, aka Vincent Moon, creative director of the series
Co-creator of the Take Away shows (Les concerts à emporter), Vincent Moon is well-known for exploring new documentary formats. An interactive journey around the backstage of one of the biggest rock festivals in Europe
A webdocumentary shot on location at Eurockéennes in Belfort, France.
In all there are 18 journeys, one for each of the artists, ranging from the talented French rapper Oxmo Puccino to the masked metalheads Slipknot, and from the godfather of trip hop Tricky to the pop phenomenon Kanye West. You can watch all these and more in behind-the-scenes clips: a radio or TV interview, a chance encounter in the artists’ tent, and the final pre-show preparations.

After each short segment, you have the choice of staying with the current artist or jumping to the next one. Although the storylines all end the moment the artists take the stage, there is no lack of music along the way, as many of the musicians indulge in impromptu jam sessions. Each journey ends at an information page on the artist, where you can watch clips of the performance.

Laëtitia Moreau sur le tournage du Challenge en Equateur

Dans ce bref entretien réalisé pour le dossier de presse du Challenge, Laëtitia Moreau revient sur ces motivations à s’engager dans un projet de web-documentaire, en complément de son documentaire pour la télévision.

Pourquoi un web-documentaire ?

En tant que réalisatrice de documentaire, l’idée de réaliser un web documentaire m’a tout de suite séduite car il y a toujours des parties de l’enquête de préparation du documentaire que l’on doit sacrifier à l’heure d’écrire son synopsis et de tourner pour la télévision. Ce support me permet donc de développer un point important, le scandale de la Texaco, et d’apporter un complément d’information au documentaire qui passera sur Canal+.

Je l’ai pensé comme un documentaire à part entière et non comme une version un peu modifiée du film réalisé pour la télévision. L’écriture du synopsis a été un exercice nouveau et créatif.  Un exercice de mise en scène d’un travail qui normalement ne se voit pas dans les documentaires que je réalise : celui de l’enquête journalistique. Une mise en scène possible par l’utilisation de tous les supports du web (photos, texte, musique, vidéo et lien interactif) mais dans le cadre d’une contrainte forte : le respect de la réalité des faits et des propos.

Qu’est-ce que le web peut apporter au projet ?

Il y avait de la part des personnes filmées en Equateur comme une frustration que la diffusion soit uniquement en France. C’est un sujet global qui mérite une diffusion globale ce que nous offre évidemment le web documentaire.

Un vision engagée ?

J’aimerais évidemment qu’il connaisse la diffusion la plus large possible pour faire connaître les enjeux qui traversent l’Amazonie équatorienne. Sur ce sujet spécifique, le web permet à l’internaute de prendre conscience et position sur un sujet qui a priori est éloigné de lui. Cet aspect « citoyen du monde » est aussi très motivant  dans ce projet.
