Synopsis (English)

Since the global financial breakdown, the EU has to tackle the consequences of a crisis that is far from over and that puts the political and social cohesion of Member States and the currency union at risk.

Faced with this emergency, what can MEPs do to reverse the trend?

This web documentary is an insight into the European parliament, behind closed doors. From Brussels to Strasbourg, from informal meetings to plenary sessions, we follow MEP Pervenche Berès, rapporteur of the 
special committee on the financial, economic and social crisis. Her goal: to reach a compromise between the different political groups all the while finding a sustainable recovery plan.

During these days, we accompany her and try to understand the work of European deputies. We share their reactions as well as the negotiations in “off camera” moments right up to the plenary vote of the final report.

This interactive documentary invites the audience to think about the existing political power of the European parliament and its role in the construction of a social and stable European democracy.

Le 15 septembre 2008, la banque Lehman Brothers fait faillite.
La plus grande banqueroute de l’histoire des Etats-Unis déclenche une crise mondiale.
En Europe, elle frappe tour à tour l’Islande, la Hongrie, la Grèce, l’Irlande, et menace les autres pays. On compte
23 millions de chômeurs et 80 millions d’européens vivent à présent en dessous du seuil de pauvreté.
L’Union européenne est face au plus grand défi économique et social de son histoire.
Face à la crise, que peuvent les eurodéputés pour inverser la tendance ?

De Bruxelles à Strasbourg, des réunions en huis clos aux séances plénières, nous suivons la députée européenne
Pervenche Berès, rapporteur de la commission spéciale sur la crise financière, économique et sociale.
Son objectif : parvenir à un compromis entre les différents groupes politiques tout en proposant des mesures
fortes pour sortir de la crise.

Au fil des jours, nous apprenons à ses côtés à mieux comprendre le travail des eurodéputés, mais aussi nous
partageons leurs humeurs, leurs réactions, en privilégiant les négociations, les moments en « off » jusqu’au vote
en plénière du rapport final.

Un documentaire interactif qui invite l’internaute à réfléchir sur le pouvoir politique de la seule institution européenne
élue au suffrage direct, et sur son rôle dans la construction d’une Europe sociale et solidaire.

Lotje Sodderland, Author, Co-director of the series
Lotje Sodderland currently works as an interactive producer-director, creating non-linear, non-fiction web content in collaboration with agencies such as Submarine in Amsterdam or Mother in London. She also writes about transformative digital culture for diverse online and print publications. Previously she was director and co-founder of Maxalot Gallery, commissioning digital and interactive art exhibitions with genre pioneers such as Joshua Davis, Universal Everything, and The Designers Republic in Amsterdam, Barcelona and New York. www.minilot.tv / Twitter

Mathieu Saura, aka Vincent Moon, creative director of the series
Co-creator of the Take Away shows (Les concerts à emporter), Vincent Moon is well-known for exploring new documentary formats. An interactive journey around the backstage of one of the biggest rock festivals in Europe
A webdocumentary shot on location at Eurockéennes in Belfort, France.
In all there are 18 journeys, one for each of the artists, ranging from the talented French rapper Oxmo Puccino to the masked metalheads Slipknot, and from the godfather of trip hop Tricky to the pop phenomenon Kanye West. You can watch all these and more in behind-the-scenes clips: a radio or TV interview, a chance encounter in the artists’ tent, and the final pre-show preparations.

After each short segment, you have the choice of staying with the current artist or jumping to the next one. Although the storylines all end the moment the artists take the stage, there is no lack of music along the way, as many of the musicians indulge in impromptu jam sessions. Each journey ends at an information page on the artist, where you can watch clips of the performance.

From the heart of the international campaign, impassioned individuals at the centre of a thrilling political battle for our planet.

The Challenge is an environmental global media adventure. It is combination of two films made for two mediums which complement one another showing different aspects of the same story, while describing the same initiative.

- a web documentary project produced in the style of «choose your own adventure books». Inviting Internet users to take on the role of an independent journalist who sets off for the Amazon in search of information and witnesses on the ecological disaster provoked by the American oil company Texaco.

- a Television documentary (HD, 52’) that follows the struggle of an Ecuadorian manufacturer and a diplomat who are ready to give up the petrol found on their lands, in order to protect biodiversity.
A political thriller, and a film with a simple intrigue : « Will they succeed in convincing rich countries to help them? »
They only have a few months to convince the international community and their governments. Through this story we accompany people facing the difficult choice between preserving the biodiversity and short term petrodollars. How would we react facing such a radical dilemma?

Le Challenge, Le procès environnemental du siècle
En Equateur, la compagnie pétrolière américaine Texaco fait face depuis les années 90 à un procès sans précédent. Après avoir déversé l’équivalent de 30 pétroliers dans la forêt Amazonienne, ce géant de l’or noir doit répondre aux accusations portées par plusieurs milliers d’indigènes et colons Equatoriens. Ils réclament plus de 16 milliards de dollars de réparation.

Quelles sont leurs chances de gagner ? Le Challenge propose de faire le point sur l’une des plus grandes tragédies écologiques du siècle.

In 2015, 2,3 billion human beings will be overweight and 937 million will be obese if nothing is done. The numbers are alarming, and their rise seems unstoppable.

Throughout an investigation that unfolds from one side of the Atlantic to the other, The Big Issue invites the internet user to confront the multiple factors of the obesity epidemic, to question our modern lifestyles, and to inquire into the responsibility of the agri-business industry and the public powers.

Ultimately, this unique journey will draw critical skills of the internet user by inviting him to take on the role of a journalist. It will encourage him or her to come to his or her own opinion about obesity, about the fatality of this illness as well as on the actions that must be taken in order to bring this international epidemic to a halt as quickly as possible.

Directed by award-winning photographer and videographer Samuel Bollendorff and Olivia Colo, The Big Issue is a documentary project dedicated to an internet audience. It is based on the original web documentary format created for Journey to the End of Coal.

Synopsis

Journey To The End Of Coal tells you the story of a sacrifice. A sacrifice millions of Chinese coal miners are making everyday, risking their lives and spoiling their land to satisfy their own country’s appetite for economic growth.

Your journey begins in Datong which is located just a couple hours away West from Beijing. You travel from there all around the region and visit its major coal mines, from the “best” state-owned complex to the worst private coal plants.

In and around the coal mines, you get the story first hand from the mingong, the rural migrants traveling their country looking for work.

At your own pace and will, you meet them and learn more about how they live in this valley of death and pollution, sometimes even literally bumping into them as they leave their home for their night shift, in the frozen winter of Northern China.

Ultimately, you might discover China forbidden mines in which happen most of the accidents.
